ABOUT MODERN PRIMITIVE GUNWORKS
Formal training.
Practical experience.
A machinist's foundation.
Modern Primitive Gunworks was built around a straightforward idea: understand the problem, be honest about the work, and give each firearm the attention the job deserves.
BACKGROUND
A progression from apprenticeship to independent operation.
Formal education and practical shop experience developed alongside one another rather than as separate chapters.
Apprenticeship Begins
Began gaining hands-on gunsmithing experience through an apprenticeship in approximately October 2021.
Formal Gunsmithing Education
Began the American Gunsmithing Institute Enhanced Master Gunsmith program while continuing practical shop experience.
Enhanced Master Gunsmith
Completed the AGI program in February 2023. After approximately one year of apprenticeship, continued working in the gunsmithing environment to expand practical knowledge and skills.
Modern Primitive Gunworks
Established Modern Primitive Gunworks in 2024 while continuing shop work, then transitioned fully to independent operation after leaving the previous shop in December 2024.
A SEPARATE FOUNDATION
Twenty years as a machinist isn't twenty years as a gunsmith—and we won't pretend it is.
Before entering gunsmithing, Anthony spent approximately two decades working as a formally trained machinist. That experience developed a strong mechanical foundation in measurement, tolerances, fit, troubleshooting, and precision work.
The machining background complements his gunsmithing education and experience, but it is presented separately because the two trades are not interchangeable.
FORMAL TRAINING & CREDENTIALS
Training across multiple platforms and disciplines.
The Enhanced Master Gunsmith credential represents completion of AGI's broader program requirements. Platform-specific credentials in 1911 and AR-15/M4 work provide additional depth in areas directly relevant to the shop.

THE APPROACH
Built on Trust. Focused on Reliability.
Every project starts with what the firearm actually needs and whether the shop is appropriately equipped for the requested work.
Capabilities, experience, and limitations are communicated plainly rather than promising work simply to secure a job.
Appointment-only service helps reduce interruptions and allows scheduled customer interactions and bench work to receive focused attention.
NEED SERVICE?
Start with the firearm and what you're experiencing.
Cleaning, diagnostics, repair, customization, and appraisal requests can begin through the service request process.
