A look at work from the bench. These projects show examples of cleaning, inspection, fitting, modification, and customization performed over the years. Some photographs began as working shop documentation rather than presentation photography — an honest look at the work behind the finished firearm.
01
CUSTOM MODIFICATION
Fitz Special-Inspired Revolver
This project involved extensive modification of an older revolver to create a configuration inspired by the historic Fitz Special. The photographs document the work from disassembly and modification through machining, fitting, and the completed firearm.
02
HAND FITTING
1911 Beavertail Grip Safety Fitting
The selected grip safety and frame combination required substantial hand fitting. Material was carefully removed and the components were fitted progressively, with attention to the relationship between the grip safety and frame and to a clean final contour.
03
CORE SERVICE
Detailed Cleaning & Inspection
A detailed cleaning goes far beyond a basic field strip. This firearm was extensively disassembled to expose internal assemblies and individual components for cleaning and inspection. The photographs also document the heavy fouling and contamination discovered once the frame was fully stripped before reassembly and function testing.
04
PLATFORM CONVERSION
Saiga Sporter Conversion
This Saiga arrived in its original sporter-style configuration. The project converted the rear of the firearm to a pistol-grip and folding-stock configuration and included the associated fitting and modification work required to complete the conversion cleanly.
05
CUSTOM FITTING
Benelli Loading Gate Contouring
The loading gate was hand contoured to open the loading area for easier access while also reducing the sharp geometry that could cut or scrape the shooter’s hand during loading. The second view shows the additional clearance and the relationship between the reshaped gate and the loading path.
06
CUSTOMIZATION & FITTING
AK Pistol Brace & Furniture Conversion
This AK-pattern pistol originally used an AR-style buffer tube and bladed brace. The buffer tube and brace were removed, then the rear trunnion and Picatinny rail adapter were modified so they could be bolted together, providing the mounting interface for a folding brace. The original wooden fore-end was removed and an aluminum fore-end was fitted, which then allowed installation of the hinged dust-cover assembly.
07
VINTAGE FIREARM
Winchester Model 1893
Detailed cleaning and inspection of a vintage Winchester Model 1893 pump-action shotgun. The photograph documents the extent of the teardown used to access the internal components and assemblies.
08
DETAIL WORK
Pin & Weld Examples
Two separate pin-and-weld jobs photographed tightly so the completed weld itself remains the focus rather than the surrounding muzzle device or barrel.
